Credit risk management: a success factor for competitiveness

On February 18, 2025, the Closed Leaders' Discussion on the topic: "Credit risk management as a factor for enhancing business competitiveness" was held with great success, organized by the Council on Competitiveness of Greece and sponsored by Tiresias. The event was hosted at the Athens Club and was held under the Chatham House rules, thus ensuring a frank and meaningful dialogue between high-level executives from the business and financial sectors, academia and institutions, which highlighted, inter alia:

  • The importance of reliable, comprehensive and real-time information for businesses in order to significantly reduce credit risk and ensure their sustainability.
  • The need to especially support small and medium-sized enterprises in relation to risk management, fraud abatement and the reduction of defaults, to which Tiresias contributes through its TSEK platform by providing reliable financial and business data.
  • Proposals for institutional changes, such as reducing the time required for businesses to be repaid by the state and assigning a corporate VAT to each professional entity.
  • The need to train businesses on the correct management of available information through credit training.

The event was opened by Mr. Simos Anastasopoulos, President of the Council on Competitiveness of Greece, while the discussion was moderated by Dr. Venetia Koussia, Executive Director of the Council. Tiresias was represented by the Chairman of the Board of Directors, Dr. Solomon Berahas, the Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Ilias Xirouhakis, the General Manager, Dr. Petros Kapasouris, and the Commercial Director, Mr. Ioannis Paloglou.

The conclusions of the discussion are set out in a white paper published by the Council on Competitiveness of Greece, which promotes public debate and contributes to the formulation of effective strategies for the business community.
